• Wrap tightly in plastic film: Within minutes of opening.
  

Take your leftover clay and wrap it tightly in plastic cling wrap (the clear film used for kitchen food). Ensure the wrap hugs the clay surface with no air pockets.

• Double-bag the wrapped clay: Double protection.

Place your wrapped clay inside a zip-lock plastic bag. Before sliding the seal closed, press down on the bag to squeeze out as much air as possible.

• Place inside a hard container: Airtight seal.

Put the zip-lock bag inside a plastic Tupperware-style box with a lockable lid. This third layer prevents accidental punctures and keeps the humidity high.

• Store in a cool, dark place: Avoid the heat.

Keep your container in a dark drawer or cupboard. Never store clay on a windowsill, near a heater, or under a direct air-conditioning vent, as rapid temperature shifts draw moisture out.

Simple Clay Rescue & Maintenance Tips

Even when stored perfectly, air-dry clay slowly loses moisture over several months. Use these tips to keep your clay in top shape:

• The Damp Paper Towel Trick: If you plan to store your clay for more than a month, place a slightly damp (not soaking wet) paper towel or cloth inside the outer plastic container next to your wrapped clay. This keeps the air inside the box humid.

• Work in Small Batches: When crafting, only take out the exact amount of clay you need for the next 10-15 minutes. Keep the main block wrapped up while you work.

• Reviving Slightly Dry Clay: If your clay feels a bit stiff but is still bendable, do not throw it away! Spray a tiny mist of clean water onto the surface or wrap it in a damp cloth, place it in a bag overnight, and knead it thoroughly the next day.

Important: If your clay is rock hard and breaks like chalk when bent, it has fully cured and cannot be saved.
