The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time of celebration, tradition, and—of course—delicious mooncakes! This year, we brought the joy of the festival to life with a special hands-on mooncake-making workshop, where participants had the chance to create their very own 冰皮月饼 (snowskin mooncakes).
From the moment participants stepped into the workshop, the festive atmosphere was in full swing. With vibrant decorations and the scent of freshly prepared ingredients in the air, the excitement for mooncake crafting was contagious.
Under the guidance of skilled instructors, everyone dove into the process of making snowskin mooncakes. First, they carefully kneaded the soft and delicate snowskin dough. This dough, unlike the traditional baked variety, has a smooth, mochi-like texture, making it both fun and satisfying to work with.
Once the dough was ready, participants wrapped it around red bean paste, one of the most beloved fillings in mooncakes. This part of the process required patience and care, but the group was up for the challenge. After wrapping the dough around the filling, they pressed the mooncakes into decorative molds to give them that iconic mooncake shape. Each mooncake emerged as a little work of art, showcasing intricate patterns and a beautiful shine.
The best part of the workshop came after all the hard work—getting to enjoy the fruits of their labor! Participants eagerly tasted their handmade snowskin mooncakes, savoring the soft, chewy texture and the sweet filling inside. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of eating something you’ve made with your own hands, especially when it’s as delicious as these mooncakes.
Snowskin mooncakes have gained popularity in recent years as a lighter, refreshing alternative to the traditional baked mooncakes. They’re made with glutinous rice flour and require no baking, making them a perfect treat to share with family and friends during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In addition to red bean paste, these mooncakes can be filled with other flavors such as lotus seed paste, custard, or even chocolate, adding to their appeal.
This mooncake-making workshop was more than just a cooking session; it was a celebration of tradition, community, and creativity. Participants not only learned the steps to make a traditional festive treat but also connected with the cultural significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
As the workshop concluded, participants left with beautifully packaged mooncakes to share with their loved ones. The pride in their creations was evident, and many expressed a newfound appreciation for the artistry and effort behind making mooncakes from scratch.
This workshop is just one of many ways to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, and we hope it inspired participants to continue exploring and sharing these cherished traditions. Whether you're a seasoned baker or a complete beginner, making snowskin mooncakes is a delightful way to connect with the essence of this festival.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌕
